Sadness Is Not A Bad Thing, It Is Only Made To Be

Sadness isn't a bad thing, it's just made to be

How many times has someone told you not to cry when it was the only thing you wanted? How many times have you pretended to be fine even though you were broken inside? How many times have people told you not to be sad when you just felt the same way? What is it that makes sadness so displeasing to people who do not feel it? Is It Bad To Be Sad?

Sadness is a fundamental emotion, so it is neither good nor bad. There is nothing bad in being sad. On the contrary, it is actually healthy because you are expressing a feeling that would otherwise be suppressed. You feel sad when the pain arises, but when you lock in the pain, the problem only gets bigger.

I will welcome happiness because it enlarges my heart; nevertheless I will endure sadness too, because it opens my soul.

Sadness is not a bad thing

Avoiding sadness does not make its cause go away. And also not about the pain disappearing into thin air, no matter how often people tell you not to be sad. It’s true that a good mood and optimism can help you overcome painful situations, but forcing yourself to be happy and hiding your pain is not a solution.

In fact , sadness is only bad when it becomes a habit. Then when you get used to them to avoid facing your problems. But there is a time for everything, including sadness. Denying it to yourself or to others will not help you process the pain. Instead, the exact opposite will happen.

The only way to get rid of sadness is to accept it – both your own and someone else’s – without pressure or judgment. Feelings are what they are and no one has the right to tell you how to feel or how to express your pain.

In fact, it causes people to express their pain in more dangerous ways when they don’t know how to deal with their sadness in a healthy way. This shows the importance of emotional intelligence, that is, the dialogue you have with yourself and the kindness with which you treat yourself.

Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you cry alone.

Why sadness is considered bad

The problem is, we don’t like to see other people sad. But why? Because we feel helpless, guilty, or responsible? Because it makes us sad and we don’t want to feel that way? Because it reminds us that life isn’t always a walk in the park? Whatever the reason, we feel uncomfortable when someone around us is sad.

We are also uncomfortable with showing our sadness publicly, as if it hurts others or marks us with weakness. Also, sadness is not “in”. Social norms dictate that you have to pull yourself together and move on. But these things are not mutually exclusive. You can be brave, you can move on, but you have to get rid of the pain first.

Tears disinfect pain.

It is easier to overcome sadness when you respect it

Everyone has been sad at some point. And we all know from experience that this feeling is easier to overcome when you let yourself feel it. When you’re crying, looking for solitude or want the wind to blow in your face. The more you try to hide it, the harder it will be for you to get out of the hole.

When you experience sadness naturally, you can better identify your own defenses. Some people can joke, laugh, and be optimistic without crying or feeling sad. It depends on every single person.

There are also people who just need to cry a little and be alone to let it all out so that they can later regain control and think rationally. Others need more time to calm down, and still others need the company of their loved ones. In fact, sadness may be one of the emotions where you can see the biggest differences in behavior when you compare how people deal with it.

It is important to respect how everyone deals with their difficulties, whatever that may be. During these times, even strategies like negation can be useful in absorbing the blow of sudden, overwhelming pain.
